I needed a replacement for my gen 1 Halo when Amazon decided to pull the plug on it. I loved my Halo and this Fitbit does most of the same features plus some the Halo didn’t have. What it doesn’t have…Halo has a great imaging feature where you can take photos of yourself and it will calculate body fat and make a virtual model of your body to predict what you will look like if you gain or lose weight. I loved this feature and the BMI calculation was accurate as it was almost exactly what I got from my doctor plus or minus a fraction of a percent. Halo also had a mobility assessment feature that would diagnose where you are having mobility issues and prescribe exercises and stretches to correct issues. What Fitbit has that halo didn’t…Fitbit has an excellent calorie tracking feature with a bar code and database that is updated by user inputs. This feature was pretty terrible years ago when Fitbit first launched it but today the database is quite good and easy to update by snapping a few pictures. I’ve tried noom my fitness pal and other similar apps but the Fitbit version is the best I’ve seen.Fitbit also now adds a recovery tracker as a part of Fitbit premium. This is great for tracking when you are best fit for a hard workout, when to take it easy, or when you should probably take a day off. It also has a stress tracker and mindfulness tracker. The mindfulness tracker also has some meditations that are available in premium as well. Registration of your device gives you 6 months of premium subscription for free.Aside from those features where the two differ the units are pretty much the same except the Fitbit has a screen and the Gen 1 Halo interfaced only by the phone app. I prefer not to have a screen as I always use the app and the screen is just another weak point that can be damaged. Unfortunately not many trackers without screens are available these days. Even later generation Halos incorporated screens. Whoop is a non-screen option but has a higher subscription cost so it was a no-go for me. Fitbit gives you food logging, macronutrient tracking, calories burned, step counter, exercise tracking, heart rate, sleep tracker, water consumption, movement reminders, and weight loss goal tracker included without subscription in addition to the features I mentioned earlier only available with the premium subscription. The main thing you like about it is that the exercise tracking is automatic. If I just exercise for 10 minutes or longer it figures out what exercises you are doing and logs it along with workout metrics. This is easy for me and it dies it accurately so I can just run, or get on my bike and go. You can manually set it up too if you prefer or wish to use GPS tracking.

I got this one as a replacement for my charge 2 which ironically isn’t holding a charge very long any more. I picked this one as it was much smaller than the charge 2 which I always felt was kind of big and clunky. This is much smaller and it does have some nice features but it also has some annoying parts too. I like that I can see my phone notifications on it and I also like that you can turn it to sleep mode so it doesn’t blind you when you turn over in bed at night. The vibrate notification that you have a message seems to vary as sometimes it is very obvious and sometimes I don’t even feel it. The step count accuracy seems to be similar to the charge 2 which means not terribly but probably within maybe 25 steps. There isn’t a clock face that I love so I am resigned to having the time be in 2 rows of numbers. Whoever designed the band should be sentenced to sit and replace them over and over for a couple of weeks as punishment as the connector is awful. I don’t know who decided this type was a good idea but it is terrible. It reminds me of the old watch bands that you had to use a small screwdriver to get off if your band broke. If you have no fingernails, you don’t have a prayer of getting this on or off but if you do have fingernails, you’re probably going to break one replacing the band. It is also hard to be sure that it is seated all the way in and won’t fall off your arm. I ordered additional bands which I had to return as the pins wouldn’t seat in the watch so replacement bands may or may not work well. I ordered the yellow original band inspire 3 as the additional bands I also ordered had a black band but I had to return them so if I had known that, I would have ordered the black band one. I am also having an issue with the swipe feature as most of the time when I swipe, it just turns itself off so I am repeatedly tapping to wake it up and then, swipe, it goes to sleep, tap tap, wake up, swipe go to sleep multiple times which is very annoying. Also the battery life icon is not for the faint of sight as it is very very tiny. So after fighting to get the screen to swipe up, I had better be wearing my glasses if I want to see how much battery is left as it is a very small icon and teeny numbers up in the top corner of the screen that also includes the date and the step count. It seems like a lot to cram onto the screen especially when the battery life is kind of useful to be able to read. I know I said I like the smaller screen but I also want to be able to see the things on it. The battery does last pretty well which is nice. So do I love it, no. But it will do, hence the 3 stars.
